Feedback (20/2/2024)
Miss Noranis was supported and encouraged our Baba-Nyonya theme. She praised that our 3 sketches (Nyonya Doll, Pastry Box, Folding Fan) are all good ideas.
Feedback (3/3/2024)
We told Miss Noranis that we were planning to go Melaka for our Data collection. She was very kindly telling us to be careful with the heatwave and sudden rainstorm and hope we have fun there.
Feedback (6/3/2024)
We asked which sketch of our group was approved (Patung Nyonya, pastry box, folding fan) and Miss Noranis replied that we have to based on the findings to make the final decision of the output.
· REFLECTION ·
Task 1 · Proposal
I took on the role of team leader. In task 1, I distributed the parts to be carried out by each team member. We were all completed smoothly. My team members cooperated very well. Our task 1 gave a brief introduction to the theme we chose - Baba-nyonya. And we made three related sketches. We chose this theme based on ‘culture sensitivity’. We believe that this race mixed between Malay and Chinese must contain some racial contradictions, so we chose this theme.
Task 2 · Data Collection
We plan to take a day trip to Malacca to collect and observe the degree of preservation of baba-nyonya culture in the local area, collect our visual reference, and collect local people's opinions on our project. Our plan was delayed due to weather and class factors. After reporting to Miss Noranis, we set off on the changed date. We visited the museum to get a better experience and observation, and we took photos of a lot of products related to cultural design for reference. We also went to a Nyonya restaurant for lunch and put on Nyonya clothes for a better immersion experience. The biggest reward of this trip was that we went to a jewelry store to buy souvenirs, and unexpectedly discovered that the owner and the proprietress of the store were local tour guides and Nyonya. We made many interesting discoveries from our interviews with them.
Task 3 · Final Design
In the end, we originally planned to use the sketch 2 - Pastry Box as the final design, but due to time and cost considerations, we switched to making the sketch 1- Nyonya Doll. The BFDT members are responsible for making the costumes, and the remaining people from BDCM and others are responsible for making the puppets and ppt parts. We was pressed for time, but luckily we was able to finish it in time.
